About me

Hello, I’m Ruth Overington and I’ve been a counsellor for seventeen years, over this time I have worked in mental health, Schools, Universities and private practice. Previously to being a therapist, I worked in a refuge, as a family support worker for social services and in a women’s centre. My life and work experience has given me an insight and understanding of life’s complexities. My aim is to support people to recognise and build on their own strengths and resources and develop a better understanding of themselves and their relationships.

My outdoor therapeutic practice started when I began to explore how being in nature has always been my way to manage my stress and support my mental health. This prompted me to undertake outdoor therapy and Shinrin-Yoku practitioner training. I believe that being in nature gives us such a fundamental base for us all to feel better. For me, it’s the natural place to start to connect with ourselves.

I like to spend my time away from work walking, gardening, being on the water or in it and with my family and pets.
